G2Play vs G2A
One difference between G2Play and G2A is that G2Play has a wide selection of game keys for consoles such as the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Purchasing a console game key on G2Play entitles you to download the game from the console's built-in game downloading system. G2Play offers a promotion through which you can buy a random game on a marketplace such as Steam or Origin for less than the regular price. At the time of writing, random game keys on G2Play start at $1.06 each.
G2Play does not guarantee that purchased keys are legitimate or will work. However, the G2Play FAQ section offers a potential resolution for buyers who purchase fraudulent keys. According to the FAQ, you should contact G2Play's customer service team if a key does not work. You should attach screen captures showing the game key and the error message that you see when you attempt to activate the key. You should also attach a picture of your game library showing that your library does not contain the game in question.
GOG
GOG began life as Good Old Games in 2008. As Good Old Games, GOG specialized in selling vintage MS-DOS games updated to run on modern Windows computers. Although GOG now sells a large selection of current games, the website's library of vintage classics remains available. If you'd like to buy a game made by a defunct publisher such as Sierra or Origin, GOG is the game marketplace for you.
Like Steam, GOG only sells game keys that publishers have sanctioned. You can buy on GOG without fear that a game key will not work. In addition, all GOG games are DRM-free. After you buy and download a game, you can play the game on any computer that you own. Unless a game has multiplayer features, it will function properly without an active Internet connection.
GOG vs G2A
Although GOG is less popular than Steam, it is one of the world's largest game marketplaces. You can find keys for both GOG and Steam on G2A. As with Steam, many of the prices for current games on GOG will be higher than those on G2A. However, there is no chance of buying a fraudulent or stolen key on GOG.
How does G2A work?
G2A.com is a site that - like Gumtree or ebay - brings together buyers and sellers of gray market game keys for PC games and activation codes for PSN and Xbox Live credit, as well as codes for other software, gift cards and - currently - even gaming hardware.
To be clear, G2A itself does not sell game codes, at least not that we are aware of. It is just a market where people can sell game codes. What you do is buy your key, wait for it to be emailed to you, then go to the relevant platform: Epic Games Store, Steam, Uplay, etc., log in and select the option to activate a game . You paste in your key and then download the game files from the platform's servers - not from G2A.
How, then, can codes be so cheap, you ask. The answer lies in the fact that game prices vary from country to country, according to average wages. Vendors buy activation codes in the cheapest regions in order to sell them to buyers in the most expensive ones. This makes them - and G2A - a profit, while players are able to save on the usual street price.
The G2A adds measures to prevent fraud. Sellers must verify their social media details and phone numbers, and are limited to 10 transactions before having to provide extra verification. Your goal is to prevent dishonest sellers from hitting buyers with game codes that don't work.

However, game developers don't like G2A. Some even went to Twitter to tell players that if they can't afford the full price for their games, it would be better to pirate the game than to buy it from G2A. These statements are extreme because the developers say that they do not receive a penny when a game is sold on G2A and that the codes are often obtained by fraud, not buying them legitimately. For example, G2A admitted that through the market it sold almost 200 stolen keys for the Factorio game, so it paid developer Wube $ 39,600 in reward. Still, this is a rarity, and most codes sold are legitimate.
This is also why it is risky to buy these codes from the gray market: they can work initially, but the code can be rendered invalid if the developer finds and blocks fraudulent codes. Essentially, g2A is not an authorized dealer, so you could say that it is not legitimate.
Knowing what we know, we would not buy games from G2A - we would support developers by purchasing them directly or from a legitimate reseller like Steam.
Who runs the G2A?
G2A.co is the company's corporate website that explains the business model in more detail. It was created by a group of enthusiastic gamers in Hong Kong with the aim of "providing the best digital game licenses and retail service to all of our partners and customers". Unlike some companies that hide their contact details, G2A is happy to publish phone numbers and addresses: they have their headquarters in Hong Kong and a support office in Poland.
The game keys are offered by 'marketplace sellers', that is, third parties who have keys to sell. These may be private individuals who bought a game, but decided not to activate their key, or companies that bought keys in bulk in regions where they are cheaper. They can also be keys that have been obtained through false key requests, and are effectively illegitimate.
Is it safe to buy from G2A?
G2A used to add 'G2A Shield' to your shopping cart when you add a game. Now, however, it offers a back guarantee with all purchases in case "something goes wrong and the seller doesn't want to help you, even if he should".
And it adds an "order fee" of around 10%, which is a way to make money.
So, the price you see is the base price, excluding the G2A order fee and any payment fees for using one of the many payment methods. So, consider this when comparing prices on Steam, Amazon or any other authorized reseller.
We checked a good selection of gaming forums to see how many people were complaining about g2A. When we did, we found that people who had bought games said that they had received keys in just a few minutes and that they were genuine and valid.
Others pointed out - quite rightly - that it was the same as buying products on the gray market and that the codes could be revoked by game publishers at some point in the future. There were many more who had had a bad experience and either did not receive a key, or a work key and had been refused refunds.
